Consolation Match

Game 21: 12-8-1
4 November vs. Salina South at Spring Hill (2-3, OT)

Well, I am sure all of us were still a little disappointed we were not playing for the title. And honestly, that is what makes the 3rd place game so tough. And so many of them go to overtime, as this one did.

Once again we came out strong and were up 2-0 with 14 minutes left in the first half.  Muckerman cashed a back-post dead ball, and Ryan let a bomb fly upper 90. Two great goals.

Unfortunately, we keep giving up pretty bad goals, and I am not sure any of these three goals would go under the well-earned column.

Salina cut it to 1 before the half. It stayed 2-1 until they tied it with about 15 minutes to go in the match.

I mean second half we were all over them. We had 15 shots to their 2, 4 corners to their one. And we did get quite a few chances in the last fifteen minutes, but we just could not get one in.

They took 3 shots all second half and overtime. The outcome does not make a lot of sense. We just needed to play some standard defense to close out the first overtime.

We almost got through the first overtime, but all of a sudden South had their center midfielder dribbling straight for goal. Parker came out, getting a piece of the ball, but it scooted just a bit before Flores found it to hit the slowest roller I have seen in a while into the net to end it.

So, tough weekend. We end up fourth but we were honestly closer to first than 4th.

It was the final match for 10 seniors: Andrew Muckerman, Cooper Welsh, John Weinrich, Hunter Noravong, Liam Ryan, Christopher Kluck, Andrew Vogt, Adi Yibekal, George Guagliano, and Hayden Reboulet. Thehave been great this year.

We have a tradition to let them all finish on the field together, but the game would not allow it.

STATS:

32:12 Muckerman (Muck heads it in off the Bjorseth throw-in)

Saints: Shots: 15 (6) Corners: 4 (Janeway, Ryan 2, Muckermn, Reboulet)

South: Shots: 2 (2) Corner: 1

15:13 Snell  (hard to figure this one out: they hit a chip into the big box, and we let it go but Snell rushes in to finish it)

2:16 OT Flores (we drop it to Snell who turns to hit a long through ball to create the 1 v 1 with our keep)
