Final EKL Match

Game 15: 8-6-1
12 October vs. BV West on their senior night at AnDAC (2-2, 2OT's)



Before I say it was a tail of two halves, I will have to admit that one half we had a decent wind, and one half we did not. Both teams scored two goals the half they had the wind.

And neither of us scored in overtime.

I did think we played very well first half, offensively and defensively.  And we were pretty solid against the wind. We were a bit unlucky to go away with a tie, but the soccer gods thought otherwise, and maybe they were right. We do have a much better chance now not to meet BV Southwest in Regionals.

We scored on two early deadballs, a throw and a corner. In fact, we chalked up 9 corners in the first half.  I am still not liking our tendency in second halves to quit doing what keeps us in good shape and what give us better chances to score—going wide and attacking the baseline. This match offered up a bit of an excuse with the wind.


Both starting 6's, along with Ragan and Morgan and Kitts just gave us excellent defensive presence, also serving as a vehicle into our offense.

We do need to do better defending set pieces and winning those headers into the box—both situations lead to their two second-half goals.

We also continued with 6 straight matches without a loss. That's a streak we will need to continue to reach our goals.

We finish the EKL with a 4-2-1 record, a record that will probably leave us in 3rd place. 

We will finish regular season Saturday in Wichita, against a 10-2-1 Wichita North team. We will be missing a couple of guys, but we look forward to wrapping 2023 up with a big road win.

3:37 5 (they gets direction off the 50/50 head ball that scoots out wide as Bobby overplays his run to allow a clean shot at the near post)

The Final Day at Kickapoo

Game 11: 5-6-0 30 September at 10:00 AM vs. Springfield Glendale at Kickapoo on turf (3-2, OT) EKL Standings 2023 STATS Instant Karma's coming to get you (John Lennon); might as well make it good Karma (Craig Ewing) The boys finished the weekend off in style with one-for-the-books finish against a very good Springfield Glendale team.  With just over 2 minutes to go, the Beast found Liam just outside the box. Liam took a great touch to push himself towards goal, drawing a PK. With both Laws and Coop out for the match, we brought Bobby up for the PK. The goalkeeper saved LeBourveau’s put back when Bobby’s ball came off the post, but not the hustle slide-shot by Janeway.  We headed to overtime. We almost scored 30 seconds in with a long direct kick that Bissen headed back across for a Ryan header that somehow was saved. Back at The Rock after they go back-to-back

Game 2: 31 August, 2023 (at Rockhurst) EKL Standings 2023 STATS We knew this would be a tall task with Rockhurst  virtually  bringing their whole team back from their back-to-back state title wins.  We were hoping our what-was-thought-to-be the strength of our team, our defense, would look far better than it did in the first match against St. James. With our strarting goalie out from an injury in the St. James game, freshman keeper, Parker Lehn, was set for an early varsity debut against one of our, if not the, best opponents on our schedule.  We played very, very well tonight, falling 2-1 with the clock at 1:11. I was so proud of our play, especially our defense throughout the match. We played a 3/4's press and the boys stayed very disciplined, eliminating most of the passing lanes, stepping up to win ball after ball.  Weinrich and Welsh at centerback could not have played better—they were so good.
