First-Ever Saints Soccer Classic Begins
Game 3: (1-2)
7 September vs. Lee's Summit West in opening around of the Saints Soccer Classic (0-1 in 2OT's)
Another one of BWhite's brainchild's was to create a big-time soccer tournament here at Saint Thomas Aquinas. We got it off to a start this year, bringing in 3 quality teams that will compete in a round robin. One of those teams, Dodge City, is currently ranked first in the state of Kansas and nationally at 21.
We open against a very good Lee's Summit West team who is always one of the top teams across the State Line.
This one just didn’t feel right as it ended. We had a dominant performance, but it also was a performance where we could not put the ball in the net. The best result we could have had was a 0-0 tie, but when the ball crosses the line virtually as the clock expires that expected tie would have felt a bit better.
Defensively, we were solid in the match. The back line continues to produce excellent matches and we are getting solid defense out of our midfield as well.
I believe our stats showed 6 expected goals, and that is pretty much the story.
We now stand 1-2, and we take on #21 in the country, Dodge City tomorrow at 5:00 at St. James. We have a tall task in front of us, but we have proven we can play with anyone.
I know the boys will be anxious to get back on the field tomorrow to get the taste of this tough, tough loss out of our mouths.
We definitely feel as if we eventually are going to score a bunch of goals with this talented front line, definitely enough to routinely support our strong defense.
Tomorrow night would be a great time to start, as we take on the State's best team in Dodge. This match should be a fun one to watch.
Go Saints!

:01 Heckadon (perfectly strikes a bending-to-the-backpost deadball that lands as close to the post as possible to avoid a clank). Nice shot.
